PRICES!! Mac Pro and G35

To start my little rant, I will say I was in the market for a Mac Pro and a 35mm adapter.

So:

Mac Pro just updated to an overpriced machine. I'm not saying it's a bad machine in any way, I've always wanted one, but $3000 for the baseline unit at student discount, crazy. It was a pretty big leap from $2599 to $2999. I believe the last leap was maybe $200?

And:

I am in the market for a 35mm adapter. My choices being the G35 and SGBlade. I've been weighing my options for some time. Telling myself, "If I got this one, then I could/couldn't get that." However, the G35 just went up $200. Maybe there was an update I'm unaware of, but I didn't see one. I was pretty mad about that, but I think that makes my decision easier.

I was already stretching myself with the price of the these items. I'm pretty sure I've made my decision about the 35mm adapter. But man, I was really excited about all this, and WHAM. The price literally jumped for me.

sucks....

Reason #1 I use PC's... my screaming (at the time it was built) Vista64 machine cost half that to build, and it's been completely reliable.

You might not need a new Mac Pro with the latest processor, unless you're editing Red One footage or AVC-HD maybe. Of course, you can always transcode as well. For me, the incentive to buying new and direct from Apple is that you can do the Apple Care warranty.

I have a Mac Pro I bought 2 weeks ago, quad core that edits RED just fine.

I was mostly excited about the new Mac Pro, because it would lower the previous model's price. I still wanted to see if the new Mac Pro would be worth it, and for me, its not.

And yes to a used adapter!

Well, there you go. Sounds good to me.

I'm gonna keep my Quad Core for awhile. Cuts through HDV pretty quickly and I am not too worried about the near future whenever I switch to AVC-HD. I'm sure in another year or two we'll start seeing Dual Octo Cores or some new crazy processors in the new Mac Pros. By then the Scarlet might be out too.
