Price quote for Editing

Hey all,

I know this isn't just a FCP question, but I use FCP so that's why it's here. I'm looking into doing some editing work for an online music site. They have asked me to edit 4, 2-3 minute interview segments of their artists. The turnaround is 7-10 days. They also at times need a turnaround of 3 days. Here's the question...What should I quote them on 7-10 days & 3 days (they want 2 separate quotes). I have done lots of freelance shooting and editing, but never just editing, so i'm not sure what normal rates would be. Any thoughts?

120.00 per hour, if on your equipment, 80an hour on theirs. If they bring in an editor and want to work on your equipment 80.00 an hour

If they want you to do a buy out deal, then consider how many hours in a day you think you will need to do it. Then add a few 'flex' hours for things like them changing stuff on you in the last minute and such. Then just look at about much that would total too and decide for yourself your absolute minimum per day rate.

Mainly though in the end its entirely up to you. If they are paying by the hour then I would price that in accordance with how experienced/fast you think you are (and be honest). If they are wanting to create a buyout for all the work, and they have a specific turn around time span (so you know you won't be working on this for 6 months) then figure out your minimum per day rate and go from there. I'd look for at least $500-$600 a day if its their equipment and $800-$1,000/day for yours (depending on what exactly they're expecting from you in terms of outputs and the like).

cheers.

Thanks VariCamLife. I've seen some of their videos and they are pretty easy editing in my opinion. But, they do have at least 2 if not 3 different cams getting multiple angels, so that's a good amount of footage to preview. Usually when I am shooting something I can come up with a timeline while I'm on site, just in my head so editing doesn't take as long. Since I've never seen any of this footage, I'll have to go through all of it. I can see that taking a good amount of time. Thanks again for the insight. anybody else have any opinions?
