Price of Vegas?

Hey,

I've been wondering how I should buy Vegas 6.

If I go through Sony I can get the download rather than the CD (which I want), but its a lot more expensive (or so it seems) from their website. I want the DVD production suite with it, and it runs $674.00 for the download.

Apparently Videoguys.com is selling it for $399.95.....is there something I'm missing? a $274 price cut sure sounds nice, but I don't want to get screwed.

Is there anywhere else that offers digital delivery for Vegas besides Sony that is cheaper?

Vegas Video + DVD Arch from videoguys is $499 before the $100 mail in rebate, which I believe is comparable to anywhere you would purchase it. And that is for a retail boxed version, not a download version.

While I don't know them personally, I am familiar with videoguys enough to know they are a legitimate source.

I think the Academic Superstore sell both for $249.

Unless you are a student the discount doesn't count..but right now I see it as a FCP vs Vegas battle. With Avid and Premiere catching up..The DVXPRO codec is a sticking point but Is it worth $1000 more to spend? If you have a Sony HD camera then you are set with Vegas. PS..I am aware of the workarounds but...None the less is MiniDV HD or P2 Cards really worth the expense? If I was to do HD I would jump and rent a Varicam or Cinealta and bypass HVX''s and the same. If I had a even bigger budget then I would just shoot film since Pany's willing to negotiate price and all..and they are willing to talk. Budget meaning at 2 million or more of course. This is that it is a Modified Low Budget production with Union workers. But for the indy then I would just rent as much equipment that you cannot afford and that way you will have quality stuff at a fraction of the cost...remember the studios only rent most of their equipment and never buy it since they can write if off on taxes as a expense. FYI

Hey Smithy, I'm really disapointed in that little box in your sig, why does it only tell me stuff I already know. It doesn't have enough info IMHO...It failed to see I was sitting in a chair or that I had a mouse in my hand or that I have two eyes and a nose....Limited technology in my view. Does it actually serve a function?

It fails to see that I'm brushing my teeth right now.....the toothbrush is red....and my mother's maiden name was grotto.

Anyway, yeah that was quite a tangent.....ummmmm, I think I'm still sticking with Vegas purely for the fact that I'm a wiz with PC's and not with Mac's....I think both platforms have their place.

I don't have control on how the box functions...it is created by danasoft.com and that is the way they made it.
