PreViz Software for Scene Blocking

looks sweet but pricey

But in the long run will save you a hell of alot of money on set, and allows the director and crew to see what assets they need to create clearly.

Just another tool for the tool belt;)

antics has been generating some buzz in the set designers' and art directors' unions as a previz tool. haven't checked it out yet, myself.

That looks really awesome. Would go a long way in making sure your crew understood exactly what you wanted out of each shot. I can def see how that could save a lot of frustration and setup time.

I recently used 3d frameforge, for my short film. It was worth every penny. However at that time there was no animations. After looking at Antics3d I am sure I will buy this software before my next project. Unless of course 3dFF adds animation.

Why...
I can edit my movie even before actually shooting it. ( Remember someone saying the best directors shoot for edit.)
My actors, DP know exactly what I want.

However...
This software cannot be completely used unless your set/location is 100% confirmed.
At the set your DP might suggest shooting in a diff way, don't forget to also additionally shoot your planned shot.
You will become addicated to this kind of software.

I will post the story board on my site with 3dff.

Have fun...UR in the right direction.

Sandesh

Well, if you're only every gonna make one film, and don't have the budget for it,
$1K might be a bit much.

But if you intend to make lots and lots of movies, and want to do everything yourself...probably worth it.

I'll stick with Frame Forge for now, though. More than good enough for trying out the angles.

I like what FF does; especially it's sequesl but this stuff is really intuitive. It is very powerful.

I'm impressed

I have Antics3D and I can tell you it's a worthwhile program, though over-priced by a few hundred. You can also add custom models from other 3d programs which makes it even better.

The team is constantly upgrading the system and to me it's better than sitting down and drawing out frames. You get to control the camera, do dolly tracking, everything.

It's really fun to play with and has a lot of potential. When I was doing my HERO fest entry, I did half the preViz in antics to show the actors what I wanted to convey. Unfortunately you can't do fight scenes the way you want to in antics so... hehe.

Otherwise. If you can afford it, go for it. I do have to say that it's over-priced by a couple hundred, honestly. They could benefit more by dropping the price so that Micro-filmmakers can jump in.

If anyone's willing to contact the team for a DVXuser discount, we should do that. This could help a lot of people out. I mean, I illustrate for a living and I'd rather use Antics to storyboard.

That is exactly why I didn't stick with Frame Forge. I went with Antics because I could basically complete an entire movie (minus some very stylized scenes) without having to shoot anything, and it served as a living, breathing storyboard.

Frame Forge isn't as intuitive as Antics as well. Which is strange because Antics has a lot more to offer at this point. Then again, that might just be me.

No I agree Kholi

I just went through the entire GETTING STARTED TOOT and

Wow

Really really impressive

It makes Frame Forge 3D Studio 2 look almost archaic .

You know what I think it is? It seems like Antics borrowed from THE MOVIES video game. And that was really geared toward the aesthetic of movie making. So you could really see what was going on. Just like in THE MOVIES, in Antics you can script and everything so it's more for the "creator" and not for the "programmer".

It's so fun to use, as well. I have yet to get anyone to make me custom characters to fit certain descriptions though. I think it might be a really good time to petition a DVXuser discount or something to them. Get more people using it.

It's really an advanced tool that can help people out.

I agree, this would save me a lot of frustration in explaining things to a DP, and for me, would cut down on those "Just give me the camera and let me do it" moments.

This is Windows only!?? WTF?

How can all these so called "creative" software company's not keep the mac people in mind?

I can see a lot of "wasted" time on this. It looks like so much fun that I can see people getting lost in this. Once they have their pre-vis, I'm afraid many people would be so locked into their setup they wouldn't be open to necessary changes. I've come across this with a director using FrameForge. Just couldn't see a better way since he'd taken so much time getting it right in the software. As long as the director doesn't get so "invested" in his setup that he can't change with unforeseen problems that arise, it could probably be a good tool.

As far as an earlier statement about it being great for the crew to know what the necessary assets are, well, isn't that what the breakdown sheets are for?
