Preview on my monitor

Well I've bough a new monitor and when I edit on FCP, I want to see the result on the monitor. My computer is connected by firewire to my deck and my deck is connected to my TV but still, there is no image. Any idea what I should change in my FCP setting?

I am having the same exact problem. I have all frames selected, but when I hit play it's just a black screen on my tv. When I have it on pause though, it'll show whatever frame I have the cursor over. As soon as I hit play again, black screen. I don't know what to do.

Does it need to render anything?
Do you have a fast enough machien and enough disk space?
Have you turned on the device and done a restart?

Are you getting audio thru the deck via FireWire? Can you capture?

Pixie - sounds like you are editing in a non-standard timeline. Sure you aren't doing PAL, or some weird framerate?

The project is fully rendered, but I do have a lot of footage on this computer. When I used my GL2 that worked fine, but now I rarely have that with me, just my DVX.
I was able to capture just fine, and i'm using a standard timeline, NTSC, 23.97

It's a pain in the ass, but what i've been doing is just going through one frame at a time so I can watch it on the tv, but I really wish I could just figure out how to make that work.
I have a G4 and FCPHD, 2 harddrives, but now I'm planning on getting an external. I work on more than one project at once and now it's running so damn slow.

Try creating a new project with same sequence settings. Import or capture one clip and place in the sequence. Now try outputting to firewire.

This way you can see if it works directly with a small project.
