Preview issues

OK, I have a little cheap dv camera that I use to hook up to a monitor to preview videos from premiere by way of firewire. Well, it quit doing this for some reason. And I've swapped cameras, so that's not the issue. It leaves me to believe that it's a Premiere issue. I'm using 2.0, is there a setting that turns this on and off? How do you guys preview video on a monitor when editing? Thanks!

What's wrong with the preview window in Premiere? Why use a camera at all? The color isn't accurate.

Well, the resolution on a tv monitor is more accurate, and I have mine calibrated, whereas my computer isn't so much. Anyone have any ideas?

You thought I was using an LCD screen from a camcorder? Oh.. No.... I'm running my firewire into the camera and the camera is plugged into a TV monitor that displays what I'm editing. Maybe I wasn't clear. Sorry.

if you go to project settings, there are prompts for previewing video and audio on external devices

The camera is shown, because I can capture... It won't preview. I also tried those settings, and I can't get it to work in there. Can you maybe walk me through it?

See if you can preview in another project. I once had a project in Premiere 1.5 that stopped sending out previews for some unknown reason. Started another project, imported my captured footage and all was well. It was only a minor inconvenience for me because it was test footage I was working with.

in project settings there is a button for playback settings...there you should have several checkboxes, some that ask it you want to preview on desktop or external device.....try that.

Not sure if you've tried this, but go to:

Project > Project Settings > General

Then click "Playback Settings"

There are your options, try unchecking the "Play video on DV hardware" and then rechecking it... I've found that my preview monitor can be a little finicky as well, but try playing around in this menu and you might find something.

Good luck.
