"preview disabled"

i know this question has been asked all over the place in so many different forums, but none have yielded any good answers. the other day i booted up FCP 5 to log some video from my DVX100a and in the log and capture display i got a "preview disabled" message across the screen with color bars behind it. i could still conrol the camera with the transport, start, stop, ff, rew, etc... but here was no video. i checked all the settings and everything seemed to be fine. i am at a total loss for what to do. i even went so far as to reinstall FCP with no solution. it's odd for an apple product to just decide to misbehave so it's wicked frustrating. any ideas? thanks....

yes, i have. believe me, i've tried all the set ups, and system settings, A/V settings and so on and that's why i'm so frustrated. it's just frustrating when one day it works flawlessly and the next, for no apprent reason, it doesn't.

yeah, i've trashed the prefs and i've tried to get the FCP rescue, however, when you click "download" it gives you a "this site has been suspended" message....

anway, when i start up FCP i get a "unable to locate apple firewire device" message. like i said, i can still control the camera in the log window, but that's all. i hope this helps a litle more...

I GOT IT! i read on another forum that someone had the exact same problem and did the exact same troubleshooting ideas and nothing worked. someone had the solution, reinstall QT7 from the apple site. i did and it worked... why? i have no idea. there's the solution for anyone with the same problem.

this is a link to the thread, the answer is somewhere on the 2nd or 3rd page. cheers.
