Pretty cool lighting utility

I ran across a light box a few weeks ago when I was looking at the Britek cool lights. It's basically an 8 inch box (very professionally manufactured) with 9 screw in ceramic sockets that accomodate 9 100watt output/23 watt draw flouresent bulbs that can be purcahsed at Home Depot) I couldn't resist, for $89.95 I couldn't buy the components or make it that well.

Anyhow here is the Ebay address and item number.

They also make a 16 socket version for about $150.00. I don't think they're meant to be controllable, they are pretty shadowless. They do offer a softbox attachment for about $50.00 though.

By the way, I don't sell these things or am I trying to promote them. It's just cheaper and better than I could ever make.

you can build that yourself for a lot less. the bulbs featured can be bought in any convenient store or even at IKEA. that said it's a good idea if you need a fluo flood or two. maybe I'll build one.....

There are no bulbs included, so there is no color temp. I've used 60 and 100 watt daylight balanced flos and also 4 100 watt floods (like the ones used for outdoor lighting) to iluminate the back section of a custom motorcycle shop. It has 2 circuits to turn on either 4 sockets or 5 sockets or all 9.
At only 8 inches square and about 3 inches thick it fits in my kit for my needs. I can't imagine the need for the 16 socket version.

A lot less I am not so sure. I consider myself a DIY man, and there are several specific tools you should have for this job to do things well. Also all the switches, plugs, sockets, ballasts, etc. There's also the light stand mount, which I don't know where you can get. Getting that for around $100 with shipping looks quite tempting.

In fact this (and the other U-shaped fluos they sell) are quite competitively priced and should make an ideal light documentary fixture to take around, not forgetting their softbox.
