Press conference scene

Hey got a question about a scene I'm filming and just wanted to know if anybody had filmed something similar and had some tips.

The scene is a press conference. Man at a podium, reporters shouting out questions. I'm trying to get as many extras and actors as possible to pose as reporters to make it look as believable as possible. I've selected a smaller room to make it seemed more filled if I don't get the number of people I want. and I'm aware that I wont be able to get all the coverage I want if numbers are lacking.

Just wondering if anybody knows of any tricks or tips on how to pull off a good press conference.

I'd suggest just closeups on the individual reporters that stand up and ask the questions. Frame them with another extra on each side for a Med/CU shot maybe. For a wide shot of the man at the podium you could try shooting from behind the reporters by showing him and the backs of their heads. By doing this from a few different angles and cutting to closeups of the man at the podium addressing people in different directions you could cut it together really nicely to create the illusion you want if you don't have too many people show up. I remember reading an article about the camera work on Boy Meets World where they only had 9 people in every class on the show and somehow managed to make it look like a large, full classroom - couldn't find anything in a web search just now unfortunately. I'm sure there are a lot more quality ideas floating around though. Best of luck!

Thanks for the tips, that sounds like a good approach.

I've been watching those coors light commercials where the guys ask the coach questions in a press conference, funny, but look pretty good too.
