President LBJ ordering pants

If you haven't heard this, it's a slightly delightful window into history and a peek behind the curtains. LBJ, a Texan through and through, liked to be hands on and take care of things himself. So when he needed some new Haggar pants, he called up Mr. Haggar and described what he needed.

My childhood years where during the LBJ administration and now, as a student of history, I am very much of two minds about LBJ. What I find distressing about the conversation is that there was a time when The President of The United States could call the head of a men's casual apparel manufacture, request specific modifications to the design and know that all all of the work in his request would be done by fairly paid workers in the United States. Those days are long gone.
