Preserving HD with H.264

So yeah I got a decent understanding of the workings of compression, what I don't know is how to preserve the best quality with the smallest files size.

I am regularly working at 720p24PN on my HVX 200. I export out of FCP to Compressor and want to preserve the HD quality as much as possible. Any good H.264 setting suggestions to keep a good size video with quality and small size?

If you can do an anamorphic PAR try this:

960x720 23.976 1.333 AR

2-pass VBR, average bitrate 8, peak at 20

AAC Audio at 384Kbps .

This is going to be about 1 megabyte per second, but should give you a near identical master.

If you have the space, you can always keep your original DVCProHD files. Try looking into hard drives from Newegg.com
