Preparing for Broadcast

Ok so I finished my first film (video?) shot on my DVX in 24p using scene setting 6.

And I editied it in Vegas. Now I want to enter it in some festivals, and I see that some of the exibition formats include DIGIBETA and PAL.

My question is - are there production houses that will rerender your AVI files on to a DIGIBETA tape? What about PAL machines - are they out there? Vegas will output virtually any format, so I would love to hear from folks what they are doing to prepare for broadcast OR distribution when you start with mini-dv.

thanks!!

Re: Preparing for Broadcast

There are all kinds of conversion houses that can take your uncompressed AVI from Vegas and output it as DB, Beta SX, IMX, whatever format you need.
There are PAL machines too, but you'll want to do the conversion from NTSC to PAL in Vegas, not via a converter box. NTSC to PAL usually loses a lot of it's lustre, just be aware...

Re: Preparing for Broadcast

Thanks! I sort of figured that out after I posted. I just didn't know if I should do the AVI file with the 2332 pulldown, or the 2-3 pulldown - which is what I think that Sony talks about as the right thing to print to tape. Guess I will contact some conversion houses.

As for pal machines, are they pretty standard - available here in the good old US of A?

thanks again,
Milt

Re: Preparing for Broadcast

PAL machines are as standard in print houses/transfer houses as NTSC is....everyone has them.
