Premiere vs. Others?

I've been using Premiere 6.0 & 6.5 for the past 3 and half years ever since I started doing this video stuff. I don't really know what else is out there. Overall I have been satisfied with Premiere though. (I'm definately a novice still) To get to the point though, why do you guys like Premiere? what else is out there?

Thanks,
Tony

Re: Premiere vs. Others?

I like premiere mostly because of it's tight integration with all other Adobe software (I use Premiere Pro 1). It's nice to have the same set of filters that I have in photoshop. It makes transfering techniques a breeze.

I'm also a fan of the interface. I recently downloaded a trial version of Sony Vegas... man I hate that interface! That and I can't nest timelines which I use so very often these days (one timeline per scene).

I've never used Avid Express but I hear that it is good. If I had a Mac I would definitely be using FCP. Definitely one of the best NLEs out there.

IMO - If you have been using premiere for 3 1/2 years I see no reason to switch. Upgrade to pro (Supports 24p, if you have a DVX) and you are set.

And as Shaw noted it flows groovy with tons of other Adobe goods. 8)

Just work with what your comforatble with. You can get a editing job done with any NLE if you know what your doing. you can edit your feature with ulead media studio or imvoe for mac. Since most movies out there are just cuts n dissovles you don't need a thousand dollar edit suite to make a cut. Now if you want to get into special effects and the hard core shiat then thats another game. I like final cut but I own Premiere and it dose the job I want it to do. It even cooks me eggs. We should just stop comparing which NLE is better, just learn to work with what you know and have. Peace

Re: Premiere vs. Others?

I too have used Premiere 6.0/6.5 and now Premiere Pro as a Hobbist enthusiast.. However at work they are creating a new Video Production unit for internal coporate videos and want me to make a list of all the equipment we need..

Currently my lists consists of:
Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5
Matrox RTX.100 Package
Boris Continum and Red Complete for PPRO
Quicktracks for PremierePro and 3 libaries among other things..

However, is this the route I should go for now venturing into the world of Corporate Training videos.. Nothing for TV Broadcast or that nature...

I know our corporate offices use Avid Adrenaline systems and Avid Pro W/ Mojo...

So I ask as a layman, should I switch to Adrenaline or stick with my simple stuff?

Thanks..
Pat

Re: Premiere vs. Others?

Stick with what you're comfortable with. In time, that might grow to be Avid, but if I were you, I'd stick with Prem!

Re: Premiere vs. Others?

I use Premiere Pro 1.5. Haven't fiddled much with any of the others (other than installing and seeing what they're like). I figure a NLE is like a car. You sit inside, take it for a test drive, and if you don't feel comfortable, move on.

I am sure there are better NLE's, but (for now) I am happy. And if it weren't against federal law, I'd make Premiere my wife! ;)
