i want to do a cuts only edit of my movie then import it into after effects. Do I have to have the production studio to do this without rendering out an uncompressed file like I would using any other NLE?

I want to finish in After effects, does editing in premiere have any adavntage if I want finish the whole movie in After effects?

I'm doing it STU'S DV REBEL way BTW for those in the know.

youu can essentially work in both at the same time using dynamic link (between PPRO 2.0 and AE 7 PRO). whatever you want to do in AE you can do by improting the project, or copying and pasting from the ppro timeline, and whatever you want to do in PPRO you can do with dynamically linking your AE project or projects to the ppro timeline.

personally i think that editing and finishing in ppro is much much faster and more intuitive because Ae really isnt set up to be a fluid editor as much as it is to work with layers for composites. then if you want to work with something in AE just make a comp, and dynamically link it to your PPRO timeline. you can do your final render in either program since you can either render from PPRO , or copy the timeline and paste it into AE and render, but having the content inside of PPRO with its edits intact lets you also export straight to DVD or to ENCORE DVD for more complex DVD authoring as well as link audio files to encore for sweetening or other work ..again all without pre-rendering.

but in the end you can use whatever workflow works best for you. whatever you think suites you is what you should go with. I would say that the only thing is that older ways of doing things were created because the newer tools and pathways for workflows simply didnt exist then. now that we have newer tools and more intuitive workflow options, its generally better to take advantage of everything they offer becuase it can make for a much more seamless and expedient post production process from start to finish.

Iam running the production studio, i have set up the dynamic link, but somthing screwy is going on because i cant seem to be able to take my time line over to after effects. this is driving mw insane i missing something here please can any one help me.

If your editing MXF files I don't think AE will recognize Raylight proxy files. Are you using MXF and Raylight?

i usualy do effects shots in AE and bring them back into PP to edit with the other footage.
