Premiere stops rendering...

Ive been a Premiere Pro 1.5 user for almost 3 years now. Up until today, the rendering features worked beautifully... now, with a 29.97 project i am trying to render out windows dv avi and the second i press render, it starts... but after a couple seconds, the render progress window disappears! as you can imagine, this is incredibly frustrating. -- IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS PROJECT ALL SUMMER!!!
I have the settings to render the ENTIRE PROJECT, not just the WORK BAR. However I also tried stretching the work bar across my entire project and exporting with that setting but had the same result. I have plenty of room on my external hd.

Any help is greatly appreciated?

That's weird. Is everything OK when you preview the project from the beginning? Does it stop at the same moment always when you render?

Did Premiere render small DV AVI file than can be played back? Is there nothing rendered, or the file corrupted?

Try to check frame by frame. It's hard to say what could be causing this problem. You may also backup your files and do defragmenting of your drive. If it worked fine so far, it could be just some problem with the filesystem.

I would suggest trying to temporarily point your scratch disc and target to an internal drive and try again.

You could also consider exporting a trimmed project and try rendering that version. This will preserve your work but will give you all new files (footage, previews and cfa) to work from.

These are some great troubleshooting ideas. Thanks for the help guys! I will try them all out later tonight. I've got way too much to do these days... college and what not.

I will post the results as soon as I give these a whirl. Thanks again!

I pointed my scratch to desktop and rendered. It still didn't work. Although, I noticed a trend. It only rendered out 1:10 -- everytime. External HD and internal hd both.

So, I don't know...

Try to render to a different codec. I have had this happen before and switched codecs and gotten it to work.

alright i just trimmed my project and will bring my ext. hd to another pc w/ premiere on it... i will try rendering from there.

i will let you know!
-- and can you elaborate more on the codec? i'm rendering uncompressed dv avi.

I expect that the exported trimmed project should be a workable solution. Write back with your results.

Have you tried copying your sequence into a new project to see if it fails to render the full project in the new project.? You will have to re-render EVERYTHING, but it would be a good trouble shoot. I seem to remember having a similar issue and I copied the sequence to a new project and everything was fine.

I brought the trimmed project over to a much faster PC on my ext. hd and it rendered beautifully in about 1/4th the time! I've gotta get me one of these!!

I am now finishing my project in Encore and then it'll be off to DVD!
Thanks for the help everyone, khmuse you truly do live up to your tagline.

So glad to learn that it work for you. I have used this trick more than once and when you have been working on a project for a long time, its a great way to give it a clean start.

Alright, well now it's off to the output thread to try and figure out an Encore problem!! =(

Seriously, I'm just unlucky this month. I haven't had problems like these...
