Premiere pro transition - auto overlap?

Hi guys,

Have a newbie question to ask: I will usually dump all my clips into the sequence and trim them accordingly using the 'red handles' in PP CC 2015. Eventually, the clips are placed 'side by side'. As there are many clips which I want to cross dissolve, it will always give me the "insufficient media" message unless I manually overlap the clips.

Is there something I am doing wrong or is there a faster way to do these transitions without repeated frames? all my clips are long enough (typically 2-8s) - it's just that it has to be manually overlapped for the transition to take place smoothly.

Apparently your handles aren't long enough. The only way for PP to perform a cross dissolve is to create new (still) frames. I will only do this in a crunch when there is an emotional moment or expression you need to capture before a transition -- should be used sparingly though...

Hi, do you mind explaining what it means by handles being not long enough? After trimming, my clips are at least 2s-8s long. My transition only lasts 6-12frames on a 24p sequence.

How would it not be enough???

The ability to place a transition between two clips is not dependent only on the clip length. It depends on on how much is available at the HEAD and TAIL of the clip or I should say source footage, because you can have a 2-8 sec clip but if that clip is at the head or tail of your footage P.Pro will have to create extra frames to cover the lack of material there...
