Premiere Pro as Field Monitor/DVR

Hey Guys

I've been reading about DV Rack from Serious Magic here on the site. Sounds interesting, but people seem to complain that the visible window is quite a bit too small.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using Premiere as a DVR and rudumentary field monitor?

I know PP will show me a full size monitor, and will capture live from the camera.

So I figure I wouldn't get some of the niceties of DV Rack, but would guarantee focus...a serious concern since I'm shooting through a freaky medium format camera DOF setup.

So if anybody's done this I'd be really interested to hear about your experiences.

Thanks!
Andy

Re: Premiere Pro as Field Monitor/DVR

I am one of those to complain about DV racks low res field monitor. It is really quite shamefull for such a great product. You can use the ppro capture window to check focus, I am a Vegas user and do it all the time. You can't check focus visually with DV rack, however there are focus charts if you buy the full version, however, I have to doubt how well those actually work if it is going by visual defenition. So yes, you should be able to use prmiere to check focus. I wouldn't use it for checking color or exposure, however, becuase it will not be correct. What a shame, DV rack has so much potential but for "studio monitor replacement software" this is one area that killed it for me.
