Premiere Pro 1.5 problem

Hey,

The good news is I finally upgraded my computer.

I was running a Tyan 2462 dual Athlon MP 2600+

Now I am running Asus A8N-SLI Athlon 64 X2 3800

Since I upgraded my computer, I had trouble running Premiere Pro 1.5.

So I format C: drive and reinstall Window XP.

I get the "same" problem. When I capture, I get the error window of death.

"Unknown Recorder Error"

Anyone have a clue what is the problem...is it fixable?

Thanks Craig....I tried. I recorder longer the first time I change the settings. I still get the same error.

Any other suggestions?

so basically to start with you upgraded your mb and cpu, assuming also ram? But kept the operationg system on the same hdd and just ran? Well that would cause a problem.

Now my question when you reinstalled xp was it a clean install or a installation repair? Sorry I know you said you formated but just wanted to be sure.

I used the same ram...I have 1.5 Gigs.

I went into Bios and had it boot via CD-ROM. Then I delete the C and D drive partition.

Then I reinstall a Clean XP version in the New C drive. I'll try again though later and let you know.

I am now having this problem, though I am not running a dual core system. I have been using this software for about 6 months now, without a problem...I just got my computer shipped here from Colorado, and im trying to capture for the first time from my XL2 and i'm dropping TONS of frames and getting the "recording error" box. I captured stuff fine before I left Colorado...WTF is going on!? All my video files are playing like junk also. Anybody, HELP!

Assuming that you are capturing to a drive that has at least 25% of its capacity free, you should be fine. When in doubt, delete your preview files (deleting the cfa files is optional), then defrag the drive(s). Shut the machine down, restart and then try again.

Ok...Basically, I start capturing, it goes fine for about 2 seconds, freezes, drops 2-3 frames, plays for 2 seconds, drops another few frames, and this cycle continues. Why would all these problems suddenly start? Is my system not using enough RAM or something?

Are there any background process running?

Are you capturing to the same drive as the OS?

Still don't know which version of PPro you are running. If 1.5.1 or earlier, did you notice if PPro is conforming audio at the same time you are attempting to capture?

If yes, just wait it out. That should off load some system resources.

No, pretty much just PPRO 1.5 is running. (Its the patched version, 1.5.1 by the way) At first I thought it might be the tape that was causing the dropouts, but I tried numerous other tapes and came up with the same problem. I even tried capturing from a different camera. Kind bummed out...I have been waiting for my computer to get here for about 2 weeks now, so I can start shooting some commercials. ( need the money) This really isn't helping.

Hey Andrew,
Hmm... since this started after shipment, have you opened your system box to check cables and such? I'd go through and re-seat any PCI cards in the system and check for any loose cables. What kind of firewire port are you using? Is it one on the system board or a PCI card? Is there more than one connector (front and back)? If so, have you tried a different port? Got a different firewire cable that you could try? Try changing things one at a time to see if you can isolate the problem to a component in the I/O chain.

I never like the capture utility in PPro 1.0. I don't think it improved in 1.5. I always used a third-party tool called Scenalyzer (www.scenalyzer.com). It always seemed more robust to me. You can do a free download just to try a different piece of software. This might help you isolate the problem to hardware or a problem in PPro.

BTW, I like what they did to improve capture in PPro 2.0 so I've been using it lately.

There isn't much information to work on here, so here is just a few things to try and test.

Can you capture to something like Windows Movie Maker? Is the machine sluggish when running other applications? Has anything else changed in your workflow?

I would open up task manager and see how many processes are running, and try closing a few of them (if the system will allow) and then try capture again. Right click the taskbar to see the menu that shows that.

Or do this from msconfig in the "run" menu. (is it msconfig in XP? Can't recall, as I'm right now on my Win2K system) Just turn off any things that may be loading on the furthest right menu and this puts you in "diagnostic mode" but say yes to keeping it in that mode until you find what's conflicting, if you do.

When I run Premiere Pro 1.5 (booting from a different hard drive on this same computer) I'm usually getting between 19-25 processes running, it's very light on system resources that way.

Wow, sorry for the lapse there, I lost track of the thread. My machine is now back to running smoothly. I dont have any idea what was causing PPRO to do that, but I left it off while I was away last weekend and when I came back and re tried capturing, it worked like there was never a problem. Thanks all for your support.
