Premiere Pro 1.5 audio problem!

I'm currently trying to create a trailer for Where the Buffalo Roam. I have an avi file of it made from the DVD I have. When I import it into Premiere Pro 1.5 I configure my project settings to match up to the avi's as close as I can. But whenever I try to put any clip onto the timeline I get no audio at all. Is there something I am overlooking?

First, check to see if Premiere is merely conforming the file, especially if it's a long video. Premiere will give you no audio until it finishes conforming. There's a progress bar at the bottom right that tells you this.

If it's not the conforming problem then Premiere might not recognize the audio codec. I've had this happened several times and it's always a pain. My advice is to rip the audio track out and convert it to a separate audio file using an outside program.
