Premiere Pro 1.5 and Noise reduction filter

When I apply the filter to an audio track with an audio fade in/fade out, it works great! Until a point.

However, once audio transition/fadeout begins, I get a weird crackling noise. If I remove the audio fade out, it goes away. There is no crackling when the audio fades up in the beginning. I'm also fading to black in the end and fading from black in the beginning, though removing these video effects does not effect the problem.

What's causing this?

What's the difference between constant gain and constant power audio fade outs?

Can I have the noise reduction stop right before the fade out begins as a workaround to the problem?

Thanks!

Slice the audio right before the fade out and remove the filter from that chunk.
That kind of helps, but it's still obvious that the audio just cuts out since there is so much noise. (Forgot to switch input on the camera fron onboard to input 1)

I remember on Premiere 6.5 I think it was, you could just drag a line in the middle of the track towards the bottom, and the volume would "taper off" Is there a way to do that on Pro 1.5? Or is that drag and drop audio fade the same thing?

Do you want the audio to just fade out? That's easily done without applying a filter. Click on the audio track and add 2 keyframes, one at the beginning of where you want the audio to fade and one at the end. Then just drag the end keyframe to the bottom so that the result is a slope. That'll fade out the volume.

I suspect the cracking noise is because the transition you apply was meant to fade two separate audio tracks to each other and not fade it into nothing.

Hey thanks! That makes sense!

im not really sure, but I think the audio filters tend to crackle and pop in PPRO somtimes pending how fast your machine is because they all function using resampling ect to perform the changes in the highest bit precision and then conform the sample back to whatever your running your project at. i assume thios because they are the same filters as in audition. at any rate. although im just taking a guess at what would be the root cuase of the audio behaving like that, you can simply right click on the audio file and select "render and replace. the audio will be prerendered and replaced with a file which has the effect applied already and will play back smoothly. other than that. you could just do as suggested above and use 2 keyframes to designate the start point of a fade, and the end point of the fade with the volume at 0. this is what i typically do as it is very fast since you can grab the volume of the track ans set keyframes by clicking on the yelllow line in the center of the audio track and dragging it in the desired direction. generally if you use the keyboard shortcuts its the fastest though. then you only have to be in the tmieline where you want the transition to start, set a volume keyframe, shortcut to the end of the clip, and set the volume to 0 which will set another keyframe. ..should take a second or two.

Are you talking about volume keyframes? If you go into the Audio track and enable Show Clip Volume the yellow line you may be looking for will appear.
