Premiere Pro 1.5 and Firestore FS4

I have a problem with my 24p footage from my Firestore FS-4

I have shot both tape and the Firestore on my DVX-100A in the regular 24p mode
The Firestore was set to the 24p AVI2 setting.

When playing the firestore back through the camera and to my NTSC monitor, the 24p looks great.

When I capture the video from the DV tape to PPro, the 24p looks good.

But, when I use the files from the Firestore, either directly off the hard drive, or after I transfer them to my G-Raid drives, they do not play back correctly in PPro.

The audio starts off 15 frames behind the picture and doesn't stay consistantly off to the end of the clip. The video has pull down cadence problems and looks as if it is actually running too fast.

I've done plenty of tape to PPro 24p editing, and I have never run across this.

Anybody have and solutions. Does PPRo 2 address this any?

Thanks!

This is strange, particularly the audio sync issue. I use PPro 2, but I don't use the F'S-4 so I have no first hand experience. If you would like to make a quick test, consider putting an example captured off the Firestore onto a DVD-R (just raw .avi) and I would be happy to test it for you on PPro 2. Send me a PM if you are interested.

I had a similar experience with the sync in 1.5 a while back, although I don't have a FS4 it is possible that this might not be a FS4 specific problem.

I never did find out exactly what cuased the problem however it was easily fixed by doing a standard uninstall and then re-installing PPro. If you've never done this it sounds much worse than it is. Takes about 20 minutes and fixes all sorts of things, especially odd things such as this.

Give it a try. If you do a standard uninstall all of your pre-sets, workspaces, license etc are saved so when you re-install, PPro comes up just as you left it.

Thanks for the support - and the comments

Over the weekend I tried a couple of variations with Premiere and the FS-4.
What I discovered is that the FS-4 should be set in the record standard AVI-2 mode not 24P. With the camera in 24p, the film is stored on the FS-4 just as if it was stored on tape. When imported into Premiere, the file reads as 23.976 and all is good in my world. The other clips must have the 24p cadenece added twice or screwed up somehow when Premiere reads it. The question I will be calling my FS-4 tech on is why does the unit need a 24p file setting and when do you use it?
Although the manual covers the basic set up of the drive unit okay, it is horrible in terms of what setings to select in which situations.
