premiere cs3 premium or avid xpress pro?

I've been using PP2 pc for the last few years and I am thinking of either upgrading to CS3 or starting with Avid Xpress Pro. So far these are the pros and cons I can think of:

AVID
pros
- industry standard/compatibility
- track record
- can handle all formats
- steep learning curve

cons
- more expensive
- hard and software requirements

CS3
pros
- great software bundle, especiallly AE
- intuitive, familiair interface
- works great in a closed post production environment
- not so expensive

cons
- not really accepted throughout the industry

Any more thoughts on this matter?

A steep learning curve is a pro for avid? Just pickin... :)

Avid express isn't the industry standard... Avid is. Express has enough differences that you will still have a curve to go from express to the real avid.

Second, the industry standard excuse is an invalid one. If you are comfortable with a program, use it. There is no reason to use the industry standard excuse because they all put out to the same end formats like DVD, WMV, M2T, MPEG, MOV, etc.

All the pros you listed for premiere are valid and again, the industry standard thing is absolute bull. If you are the only one editing on your project- pick what you like best.

Download the trials and find out for yourself.

Hehe, steep learning under pro was hasty posting :dankk2:

Anyhoo, thx for your reply. With Avid being a standard I mean the possibility to take my edit to postproduction and online it without too much hassle. In the Netherlands I feel Avid is pretty much standard in those environments.

Thx for your help!

This is valid to an extent. If you are off-lining an uncompressed HD, 2k or 4k project, I have heard Premiere's EDL's are a little funky. Ive tested it myself and had troubles. So far I have not had to work with DI's so ive stuck to premiere but in serious post production DI compatibility is one of the most important points. So industry standard can mean the world or it can mean nothing, just depends on what your doing.
