Premiere crashes on import of video

Hi guys,

First time posting here, a colleague highly recommended this forum for anything and everything video related!

So the problem: I've got some sizeable .avi files (just north of 13 gb). I can't seem to get Premiere (CS4) to import the videos. I can go to File->Import, no problem. As soon as I choose the file, though, Premiere gives up, reports a serious error, and closes automatically.

Is there a size limit to videos imported to Premiere? After Effects also crashes. I'd hate to go back to the camera and re-transfer everything in much shorter shots.

Go into Your Control Panel and remove any codecs you have installed,

Uninstall Premiere Pro,

RE install premiere pro and check back.

If you dont have any codec packs installed then post back.
 
It doesn't seem to be a codec issue. Alas, due to the time constraints I'm under, I'm stuck going back and recording each item as a separate file. Sigh. My own fault for not doing it right the first time, I suppose.
