Premiere 8 crashing and memory low messages

Here's the deal.

I am using Premiere Elements 8.

My computer is Studio XPS 9000 with Intel Core i7-920 processor (8MB L3 Cache 2.66GH
It has
8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB, Serial ATA II RAID 0 With Dual500GB Hard Drive
and
I am using Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English.

It has been crashing and a window pops up saying I am low on memory.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Elements is a 32bit consumer app not meant for any serious editing. 32bit means its limited to 2gigs of ram in xp, maybe more in windows 7 64. So my suggestion is to get Premiere cs5.

You can have up to 4 GB total RAM in 32-bit.

Foster Kane, do you have other software running at the same time?

In XP, programs are only allocated 2gigs of ram each. That was why there was a simple boot hack that allowed you to use up to 3 gigs of ram in AE and photoshop.
Your system can have 4 gigs of ram in it but in a 32bit OS like XP, it doesn't mean your programs can use all of it.

3.5GB, technically. But like bimdas said, the programs can only access some of that, not all of it.

My suggestion would be to use CS5. Seeing as you're running a very good 64bit processor with a compatible operating system, you're not going to get the performance you should be getting.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Unfortunately CS5 is not option since it is really expensive. So I will have to play around with Premiere Elements 8.
