Premier Pro Export: Just Not The Same As Monitor!

Hi all

Wonder if any of you suffer a similar problem. I've been using premier for a while and I'm happy with the look I can get in the monitor window. However, whenever I export the video it looks pretty rubish in the exported file - it's like night and day compared to the video I thought I was making in the monitor window. Even something simple like capturing a video, dropping the saturation and exporting MS DV AVI really mucks the look up.

Anybody else get this? Anyone help?

Thanks

What are your export settings ?

I've just been going with the Microsoft DV AVI settings. I've had some success in the compressed area - to get stuff on the likes on Triggerstreet I've been exporting to MOV and then recoding that to Real format. I'd love to put all my web stuff out to MOV but the files coming out are huge.

I got a demo of Sorensen Squeeze and it was brilliant but a) it watermarks b) it's $400. If Real can do an encoder for free, why can't Quicktime/Apple do something similar? pet hate.

Any tips exporting form Premiere Pro would be very much appreciated. I love the app and the way it works, but at this rate I'll end up buying a Power PC with Final Cut Pro (seriously)!!

I could mail you a screenshot of the settings page??

Cheers

I export to Uncompressed DVavi and the results are high quality and as expected. This material is used for TV broadcast and as such is tech checked rigourously on hi grade monitors and scopes.

I use the DVavi to produce movs ( Quicktime Pro) or mpegs (MainConcept MPEG Encoder). Quicktime Pro does a great job in both directions (avi to mov or vice versa) and I consider it an essential tool.

QT Pro is so cheap its virtually free. ( and it has some Sorensen function also)

doonae, something must be wrong with your setup or settings; as Shooter says, exporting to DV AVI will give you great footage. In fact, it's the exact same footage that you're seeing in the Monitor - when you press enter to render your timeline, you're really just viewing a series of DVAVI files that Premiere has rendered out.

Sorry, this is a nitpicky thing, but Shooter: technically DVavi is never uncompressed, but the DV codec has very little quality loss. If you're really worried about quality in some situation and you need to export, you can export as a literally uncompressed, lossless AVI.

What I mean is Do Not Recompress ( an export option easily missed). I always suggest this so there is no "further" compression added.

All DV including D1,D5 etc has compression but the various programs call the compression thing differently eg Do Not Recompress (PremPro), Lossless(AFX)
