Hi i am just about to get a DVX100b. I obviously intend to use the camera in 24p mode but can i still use my Premiere elements 2 to edit it? Cheers

Premiere Elements too

Premiere Elements too

Same here mate. Did you get your answer ? Im using Elements too but havent yet bought the camera.

Ive looked around the forum and not really found a possitive answer, i am also questioning if i should get the dvx100b now.....ive learnt that 24p is only available in NTSC and not PAL, PAL will only shoot at 25p, as i am in the UK everything needs to be PAL...however if all my films are exported to a DVD format does that mean i can forget the NTSC and everything will play peachy?

Another thing ive been into premiere elements and had a look at the set up, i can capture in NTSC and PAL if i tell it to but does that mean i will have problems later in exporting to DVD

Confused...you will be....HELP...although i have learnt so much on the forum

Premiere Elements cannot edit 24p. However, it can support the 2:3:3:2 without conversion to 24 because it is 24 frames presented at 30 frames/second.

So 24p? No. 24 frames at 30 frames? Yes.

You would be best served upgrading to Pro anyway. Just for the workflow advantages.

Right thanks for that things are becoming a little clearer. The question now is do i (because of money 2 options available) 1) spend £1700 on a dvx and not use the 24p to its true capacity and get a software up grade later or 2) the opposite upgarde and forget the dvx for a bit.

Trouble is i like my elements programme ive got to know and love it really well now its kind of perfect for the little films i make, i wanted to change the way i shoot with a new camera rather than change the software.

And if you could sound me out about the NTSC/PAL problem that would be great.

thanks for your time

Get the UK version. If you are homied up on showing everything in the UK then you should certainly get the version that suits your environment. The 25 fps looks just as good but doesn't have the ability to be easily transfered to film. Which, since it appears you are just starting out, then I wouldn't be too worried about that.

I'd get the DVX and then upgrade (in that order) for sure- no doubts about it.

Thanks for you time, when you spend that amount of money on a camera i want to understand stuff before i buy. The forum is great for that and i have learnt loads just by reading peoples post....so thanks for your replies....i will get the dvx!

I have never tried editing 24p in elements...

However, if you can afford it, get Premiere Pro, probably get it for 300 bucks or so on Ebay, or if you can get a student discount... If you like elements, wait till you see PP, amazing program.

I gotta say, I too love Elements though, it's not very stable on my computer for some reason, but it packs some punch, I have FCP, and PP 2.0, and I still go back to elements to do a few things. It can rip and burn DVD's better than just about any program I have seen until you get to a very high price point. Plus it seems to have an uncanny ability to recognize footage, something I have yet to understand.

That being said, if you can borrow some 24p footage from a DVX, try plugging it into ellements, see how it looks, I wouldn't be surprised if the program figures it out.

I have heard that elements was a bit unstable but i have to say that ive not found any real problems with it, it can be sluggish at times but i think that may be to do with a RAm thing more than anything. We have prem 6.5 at school and i hate it its so unfriendly its untrue, is pre pro better?
I am waiting for preston media to drop the price of thier dvx 100 b to £1700 which should be in the next week or so, then i will order it. I am sure the learning curve will be a little steep but in the mean time i will be aable to see if elements can handle 24p 25p or 60i???

No. Premiere Pro is a complete ground-up recreation by Adobe. It is completely different in every aspect except user interface. That's why they started the version number back to 1.0.

Well, its the basics that are its downfall, its obviously a powerfull package but its simple things like cutting, pasting, moving things around and the whole timeline set up... its just shocking, its almost an afterthough, something they have forgotten about.

My school videos (cut in 6.5 or premiere) have been up loaded to u-tube, type in humphry davy school or perranporth and they are on there under movie club (its simple stuff but good for the pupils to become involved in ) ive also uploaded some lifeguard films ive made....if your interested.

still waiting for preston media to drop thier price but have also found a site purelygadgets that is doing the dvx100b for £1700.

cheers

my bad, thought 6.5 was the expansion for 1.5, didnt start using PP until 2.0...

That being said, you should love PP 2.0 then, you can download a trial... check it out... as soon as I get my new computer up, I will be using it instead of FCP, at least for most things.
