Pre-Rendering

Just checking my logic.

If I render out individual scenes, then import them into the final project for the final cutting (cutting *only*), the final render should go faster, yes?

The system will have already done all the color correcting and whatnot, so all it should have to do is the compression.

Sound right? I could test it, but if someone already knows...

yeah if you're only cutting that should work. 100% cutting. no fades or anything else or else you'll get some loss in quality.

The only time I ever do a pre-render is when I need to see what a scene looks like real time, like a slow-mo, or a scene with graphics that slows down playback fom the timeline on my system. Then i'll pre-render that shot just to see if the timing/speed is correct.

I virtually never pre-render, I just use SHIFT+B to render to RAM.
If you have Vegas 6, there is no need to ever render, because you can drop nested veg files to the timeline, and all edits, filters, titles, etc are there just as though you'd rendered them.

That will work -- but then, the time spending doing those pre-renders probably washes out.

I imagine total render time won't be much different...but rendering sections as they become available, rather than watching the machine chug along rendering everything for the first time as a deadline approaches...

And the computer doesn't have to do any of the processing it normally does for the FX? I think we're talking about two different things.

Ah. Well. Anyway. Ran into a problem tonight. I've got two tracks that had a bit of 3D track motion & Chroma Keying in them.

Vegas choked on them. Sometimes just disappearing, sometimes giving me an exception first.

So I rendered those two tracks to a single new track, "muted" the originals (I'll delete them entirely sooner or later), and rendered the project with no problems.

So, apparently, it does put less strain on the system doing it that way.

Whew. I was a bit panicky. This thing is due next week...
