My current budget: $10,000

Here what I have planned out so far:

BMCC: $2845
Tokina 11-16mm: $700
Canon 35mm 1.4: $1380
Edelkrone Modula 5: $800
SmallHD DP6: $1300
SSD: $500
Batteries: $250??? No idea on this one.

This leaves me $2250. I know I still need a follow focus, lens support, and ND filters.

Currently I have an ok tripod, dolly, Tamron 17-50mm, and all my sound equipment.

I plan on doing Youtube skits, short movies, music videos, corporate videos, and weddings.

Am I missing anything else? Am I spending too much money on any piece of equipment?

Thanks.

Keep in mind Tokina is releasing an updated version of their 11-16mm sometime soon.. Not sure about the details but just thought I'd bring that up.

Thanks for the heads up on the Tokina. I will most likely wait till last minute before I order any of this stuff, in case I have to back out of BMCC for whatever reason. However it is going to be really hard sitting on this money for 3 months :(

According to this site: http://www.popphoto.com/gear/2012/01/new-gear-11-16mm-tokina-x-116-pro-dx-ii the price is going to be double of the original 11-16mm at $1200. Can't find any pre-orders anywhere to see if that's true.

Personally i wouldn't buy dollies, sliders etc unless you're going to be using it regularly, just rent when needed. As for lenses i hear alot of good things about the Samyang/Rokinon 35mm 1.4 at around $500. If you really want to blow a wad of cash on a lens i'd go for the Canon 24mm 1.4.

John Brawley in the workflow thread mentioned he used a 17" macbook pro with fcpx & resolve.

Re buying everything in advance, I won't buy any lenses or gear till I test them on the camera ... No buyers remorse any more for me :D

I love lists like this. I do the same thing so I can research one thing at a time. On some of the items the technology isn't changing rapidly and the product is so versatile you can buy it now. A tripod would be an example, but you already have one. Some of the new thunderbolt storage/back-up solutions just came out last month for instance. I am probably going to have a similar list as yours though I probably would do things like buy 2 SSD's versus 1 big one (waiting until its shipping).

I would personally wait on the external monitor too. SmallHD at $1300 is rather pricey for the size and based on your (and my budgets) and I am hoping for Lilliput option or something around $300. I don't see why they can't come out with something awesome since the iPad 3 has a super sharp picture for $499+ Unfortunately its probably a bit over-sized for many for this, but there may be other options available with the various smaller tablets soon (though I've not seen any). Recent technological examples (though not sure the usefulness in this case) is broadcasting via wifi sd card and receiving with the iPad. Possibly may even being able to use a smart phone, though some of these economical solutions may be a year away.
