Pratt Film School

I have been looking into the film program at Pratt in Brooklyn and Manhatten and it seems pretty good. Does anyone have any experience or heard anything about this school? Let me know. Thanks.

Don't know about the film program, but I do know the school has been around forever and is (or at least was) regarded as a great design school. A lot of famous art directors came out of there, although the only one I know of off the top of my head is Stan Richards of The Richards Group fame (ad agency that does Motel 6, Home Depot and others).

speaking of the richards group, my professor at univ. of north texas gave me some insight on how the famous "well keep the light on for ya" for motel 6 was born. pretty interesting.

to all,

a student of his was interning for about a year or so @ the richards group. motel 6 needed a radio ad; so stan told the creative dept. to break into teams and come up w/ a ad. the interning student and his group had 26 secs. of the spot done. so someone in the group came up w/ "we'll keep the light on for ya" as the ending tagline. it won of course and he went from interning to making well over $125k year writing copy on various accounts. then left richards group and went into biz for himself.

That's interesting, though not as amusing as I thought it was going to be.

Thought it might be something to do with sleazy motels and prostitution.

I went to Pratt and now I'm $125,000 in the hole. For me I think I learn way more just doing it. The foundation classes were good to take for light, color and design. I don't know how the equipment is now but it wasn't that good when I was there in the late 90's. For the money you spend on the school you can shoot a bunch of shorts and learn by trial and error. The good thing about going to school though is that you meet a ton of people with the same dream.

Yeah that being $125,000 in the whole is what is worrying me. I know I could do things on my own and learn, im starting to do that now but did going to that school help you at all in getting a job somewhat in the industry.
