Fujifilm Unveils the Development of its First Filmmaking Camera “FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA”

Achieving rich, true to life visuals with the large format sensor
Paving the way for a new era of film production and timeless masterpiece creation

TOKYO, November 12, 2024 – FUJIFILM Corporation announces that it is currently in the process of developing its first-ever filmmaking camera, the “FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA” (GFX ETERNA), with plans for a release in 2025. The “GFX ETERNA” will feature a large format sensor, “GFX 102MP CMOS II HS”, which is approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm sensor, and the high-speed image processing engine “X-Processor 5”, enabling filmmakers to capture rich, true to life visuals and have enhanced flexibility in post-production. Both the “GFX 102MP CMOS II HS” sensor and “X-Processor 5” are the latest technologies featured in the mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM GFX100 II”, which delivers extraordinarily high image quality with its 102 million pixels.

Fujifilm will showcase the “GFX ETERNA” as a reference exhibit at the comprehensive media event “InterBEE 2024”, which will be held from November 13th to 15th 2024.

Needs a quality viewfinder and 4” LCD that can be used at the same time, like Arri has and Sony and Canon do not have. Arri has two ports, one for the viewfinder/LCD combo and a second port for the SmallHD monitor, which is a great setup, providing power, video feed, and camera button control via those ports. That is aside from the SDI outputs. I want to see more cameras do that. I want the option to use a solo viewfinder, a viewfinder/LCD combo w/4” LCD, a 4” solo LCD, and a 7” monitor from these two ports.

Mini XLR is good and what the camera industry is changing to which offer the same quality in a smaller size, so if you can’t afford to replace your full size XLR cables with mini XLR cables then you also can’t afford these cameras. Canon has a third mic port which is 1/8”, though like the Amira I wouldn’t mind a third XLR port especially since mini XLR takes up less space. I use the third port for on-camera mics and phantom powered on camera mics are generally better than 1/8” mic powered mics.

Quality modes for shooting 2K, 4K, 6K, 8K, Super 35, Full Frame, and Large Format. Fast readout speed and built in ND.

Minimum of two SDI outputs.

The photos show a lot of unused real estate on the body, though it doesn’t show the other side of the body. Add more user buttons and dials. Having a dedicated and user changeable dial for menus, WB, ISO, and Aperture is useful. Arri lacks dedicated buttons or dials for those, which is a pain.

It’s odd how the ridge on the back covering the SDI ports sticks out a lot: are the ports all at an angle?

Got to have gold mount as well, and a smaller secondary battery mount as well would be nice. I really like how on Canon cameras you can get decent run time on Canon batteries if wanting a smaller form factor but can also use the Canon batteries with V-Mount and Gold and get the benefit of both hot swapping and longer run time from two battery systems. Even if the power draw of the camera is high such that small batteries don’t last long having hot swap ability is a nice feature.
