Has anyone had any experience editing with PPro on a notebook? I have to be away from home quite a bit in the next few months, and I have several editing projects to work on.
I have PP 2.0 on an HP notebook. It's an AMD 64 3200, 512 ram, 100gb drive. I hook my camera up and capture right to disc, no tapes needed. It works great. So does DV Rack, Vegas, Photoshop, Audition, and Encore. Never any dropped frames. No worries.
I've done my share of editing on a notebook. An old one at that. Haven't tried Prem Pro 2 yet, but 1.5 works just fine on a Celeron 2.2Ghz, 512mb RAM, 40gb 5400rpm drive. Slow, but functional.
Thanks for the replies. I picked up an HP notebook, and so far, it's all good. I bought a Maxtor 600 gig external drive, and migrated my PPro projects to it. I need to find a Firewire 800 PCMCIA card to take full advantage of it, but even connected via the USB 2 port, it's working just fine.
I'm also using an HP notebook with an A64 3400 with 1 gig. The 1.5 video collection ran well on this and I just loaded the 2.0 production suite on it. I always miss the real estate of the display on my desktop and disk I/O is not as fast but it's quite useable. Like Sacksnack, I use DVrack on it. Runs great. I also run Cubase to make 8 channel multitrack recordings using a Presonus Firepod. I'm hoping to replace Cubase with Audition now that Audition 2.0 is capable of doing this function.
My only issue with the HP notebook is that the built-in firewire port randomly causes dropouts when capturing from tape. Not a lot but it would drop a frame or two on every tape I would capture through it. Once I switched to a firewire PCcard, no more dropouts.
I am extremely happy with my Dell Ispiron 9300 (Dell, just have changed to the dual core processor and named here in Europe 9400)
PP2 is functioning great together with this laptop under extensive editing projects.
My configuration:
2.13 MHz
1 giga ram
60 giga 7200 HD
Nvidia 256 ram video card
1920x1200 screen
So far, I'm really happy with my HP. It's only got a 1.7 Mhz processor, but it has 1 gig of ram, and a great widescreen display. I've been using PPro and Audition with no problems at all. The wireless network stuff is pretty cool, too. I converted my router to wireless, so I've got access to the Internet and my printers from anywhere in the house. Of course, that has nothing to do with what this topic is about, but it's definitely a side benefit of the notebook.
