O.k. this is one for the pro's...

Got my flic in my computer... (using PPRO 1.5) need to get it into a DLT machine so I can make a glass master dvd....

Soooo....

The $ 64 question:

How can I do that?

Does the DLT machine have a firewire input? If so.... from PPRO do I just "send to tape" and click away...?? I know it can't be that easy....

Or do I take my entire computer to a dub house and have them extract the movie from the computer in some magical way?

I've seen the machine online for around $ 500 but no pictures or specs....

aaah... the mysteries of movie making never end.....

:(

Did you author the DVD in Encore?

If so, what I believe the duplicating facility needs on that DLT is the authored file.

I think they'll author it.... most do menus...etc.... I'm pretty sure I need to bring in the movie on a dlt (tape) and they take the tape and make a glass master. Just have to figure out if I can get it onto the dlt (tape) from PPRO1.5

To start with, what do they want? You cant "think they'll author it", "I'm pretty sure..", you must know for sure. Ask them what they want and how they want it. Thats the best bet i can give you! :)

AFAIK, PPro can not export to DLT.

I agree with the other replies that PPro will not cut the DLT tape. In the Adobe world, Encore DVD provides that function. Traditionally, DLT drives have a parallel SCSI interface although I've seen reference to newer models with SATA interfaces and firewire-to-SCSI adapters. Not cheap in any case.

I'm with Averdahl. I really doubt that they will author it for you as part of the replication service. They might provide that as an extra service. I'm only speculating myself but I would expect that the DLT tape needs to contain a block by block image of the final DVD.

I looked at the website for the company that Barry Green recommended to you in the other thread. Looked to me that they are pretty flexible. Under repllication services, they say they will take a DLT tape OR a DVD-R disc. I don't know if the DVD-R disc has to be in some special format but I would give them a call and see what they suggest. Note that they provide authoriing services but that's separate from the replication service.

Good luck. I'd like to hear what you decide upon.

this is what you need.

Your final project on a dvd- r dvd 5 or dual layer dvd9-r for replication.

make sure its what you want and they can replicate it from that, DLt is also an option if you cant burn your projcet on a dvd.
