PP2.0 Simple Video problem

Well, i just got back from filming in brazil, and i have recorded over 8 tapes.
Here is the problem. I want to be able to capture one tape and then edit it to my liking, and then delete the raw footage that was originally uploaded, because each tape is 15 GIGS!!!! I purposely bought another external harddrive (80 gig) just to edit all of this footage but it was not enough!

So my question, is it possible to edit raw footage in a timeline in premiere, color correct it, and then delete the original raw footage?

I realize that the timeline needs the raw footage to reference whats on it, but there has got to be a solution that is not so memory consuming. I butcher these tapes from an hours worth to about 15 minutes.

Anyways, thanks in advance!

Youll have to export the clips your using to your hard drive then delete the raws. Or if your editing one tape at a time edit the tape then export the edited timeline and the delete the raw captured files. Itd be nice if you could delete the raw files while still working on them in a timeline but unfortunately thats theoretically impossible.

You could capture to shorter segments than a whole tape, then export whole scenes/chapters as you go, and delete the footage segments after they have been edited exported. It might even make it easier to catalog shots with a bunch of small segments rather than one long one that's a whole tape.

Just spend $79 on a 250gig external or really splurge and spend $160 on a 500gig. That will keep you going for a while.

Hey, thanks for the replies. And yes, the footage is SD. As it turns out I just decided to go out and buy another external hard drive. I got one that has about 250 gigs on it, so it should last me awhile :)

Anyways, thanks for trying to help!
