PP CS4 not accepting AVCHD after re-install

I recently had to reformat my hard drive, re-installed most software including Adobe Master Collection CS4.

Prior to the format, using my original AMC CS4 installation, I had menu selections for AVCHD and the default sequence settings for AVCHD in PP CS4. With the re-install those options are not there. Nor can I even view an m2ts file. It says the file format is not supported, yet in the Media Browser I can choose View as: AVCHD.

This is the ONLY place that AVCHD can be found in any menu or selectable option. The only sequence settings available are DVCPRO HD.

What's going on with this install?

I did standard installation on this and the original installs.

No hardware changes what-so-ever.

Keep in mind that it WORKED at one time with this hardware and software config.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but to no avail.

Very frustrated... please help. Thanks.

Please understand the OP before replying

Please understand the OP before replying

I know I'm going to come across as a jerk and even ungrateful for free help, but why-oh-why do people bother replying to posts when they completely dismiss the contents of the OP?

Do some people feel obligated to just throw out some useless piece-of-crap answer in order to FEEL like they helped?

I had the clarity to think of, and took the time to type, the fact that there had been "absolutely" NO HARDWARE CHANGES. Yet I get a useless reply like the most recent one? Make sure your router/firewall settings are correct?

To be even MORE clear, I did say that it updates... which means the firewall/router couldn't POSSIBLY be the problem. If those things were causing a problem, I would most likely not even be able to log in. If, somehow, I were able to log in then I surely would get an error message indicating that the updates could not be downloaded.

Sorry for sounding like such a complete jerk, but I can't be the ONLY person who feels this way about people posting replies when they obviously paid no attention to the OP's carefully chose words.

If I want someone to hear/read my words but refuse to comprehend them I'll go find a politician.

(had to get that out there....)

Please, don't attempt to help unless you took the time to understand the OP. It's a waste of time for the OP, but it's also a waste of time for everyone else who comes along.

I've never posted anything like this and never will again, but keep in mind that it's just one message compared to the nearly limitless number of useless replies to all those other millions of messages.

*ugh* I'm tired from my bitchin now...

I know that those AVCHD presets (along with others, IIRC) are not included with the trial version. I've had problems with this, installing Premiere unactivated, then at the moment of activation HOPEFULLY you'll get a popup telling you that there is "third party content" ready to be installed. Clicking yes to that should start a progress bar, and a reboot of the app, to create all of those presets and add AVCHD support.

In my experience it's finicky and doing things like going back to add support for the English speech analysis would nuke those "third-party addons" again even though Premiere was still activated. Fortunately in my case, running the 4.1 upgrade script that I had downloaded magically restored all of those presets.

You're not the only one with this problem, but as I said I suspect the nasty activation sequence has a lot to do with it. I would work on deactivating then reactivating, or some pattern perhaps of that plus reinstallation? If all else fails trash preferences might help?

Beyond that I think you should definitely contact Adobe. This is a significant usability problem they need to be made aware of and they better have a solution for you.

Good luck!
