PP Cs3 OMF export options + File indexing/linking

I have read up a little bit about CS3 and it appears there is no way to export OMF for me to get my sound guy the files to work on in pro tools.

What have your workarounds been for this issue?

also, issue 2.

I grabbed my external hard drive, brough it to my friends house who had a non legit version of CS4 simply to see if i can open CS3 files before purchasing the upgrade, and therefor cannot update to the version she had that supports OMF export, we opened the project, and for some reason it asked me to re link EVERY single file as they all became offline.

Is there some reason for this? Can i bring the files back to my computer and switch some setting somewhere so that when i bring a hard drive to another persons computer it will not ask me to re link all the files as it's very time consuming.

thanks for the quick responses guys. Only have a very short amount of time to figure this out. Appreciate your help.

There really is no workaround for the OMF issue. About the closest thing you can do is export an Edit Decision List (EDL) that'll show which takes were used and where, but it doesn't include the source audio or handles.

yeah, that's what i was afraid of Huy,

more importantly, any clue as to the second part of my question? Putting the hard drive on my friends computer and opening the project resulted in me having to re link every single file. Not sure what's up with that. All the files are on the drive, along with the project. What am i missing here?

It's because you're moving the files to a physically different location but it's still looking in the same place.

If you copy it to the external hard drive and relink at yours then it should be fine at your friends house. You need to have the same drive letter though.

e.g. if it's called G:\ on yours and H:\ at his, it'll still be looking at G:\

The files are in the same location no? All on my external 2 TB drive.

Will check out the lettering though, that might be an interesting point.

brought the hard drive to other computer, remapped the hard drive with letter "m" to make it consistent with the lettering on my computer and nothing changed. Still had to re link every file.

Suggestions?

It shouldn't be due to opening the cs3 project in cs4 right? All of the scratch discs are on the external drive too. So I'm really confuzzled.

I'm sorry i'm not sure what to suggest. you can high lite the whole lot relink it wiht one click if that helps.
