Hi,
I did a quick search and then I am writing.
If someone thinks that i am repeating things please point me to the correct thead..i will be more than thankful rather than clutterting this good place.

1. my first question is: I have shot some 720p/25pn footage.
which preset should i use to edit in pp cs3. I believe DVCPROHD 720p 24p @
60Hz and change the frame rate in custom settings. Please confirm.

2. I am using P2 viewer to change the clips name. how can i tell pp cs3 to show me those names instead of p2 file names?

answers will be greatly appreciated...

1) Yes, just create a custom setting (if there isn't one already) for DVCPROHD 720p 25p @ 50Hz. You can use the one you mentioned as a starting point, alter it, and then save it for future use.

2) Are you changing the Clip Name or the User Clip Name? The clip name is the 6-character name comprised of numbers and letters plus an MXF extension--you don't want to change that. The User Clip Name will default to the Clip Name unless you modify it, either by preloading metadata into the camera, or in P2 Viewer. Premiere Pro will read the User Clip Name and use that as the name of the clip in the bin--no special process required.

1) Yes I am using 720p 50Hz 25fps as editing mode. I believe this should be ok. have a look at the image attached.
Also what should i follow if i want to have a 24p DVD as the final output of my project.

2) I have changed the user clip name. e.g clip name is 000602.MXF and user clip name is abc.MXF.
In pp cs3 i can see the file as 000602.MXF? what should I do to view the file as abc.MXF?

one more quick question: why is that the project audio is 32 bit floating point mono?
how can I make them 16 bit Mono?

Your project settings look correct. You should be able to drop 720/25p media into your timeline, with no red render bar. If so, you're in good shape.

Don't know what to tell you about going to a 24p DVD--I know how to do that with 24p media, but 25p media is a different ball of wax. Seems I've seen resources on the 'net, somewhere, about conversion workflows. Might be something that After Effects could help with...?

Unsure why your customized User Clip Names aren't showing up--PPro looks into that metadata field, and if there is something there, it uses it. There's nothing you need to toggle on or off in order to do that. All I can figure is that maybe your metadata is not being saved as you change the clip names in P2 Viewer. Do the modfied names show up if you close P2 Viewer, and then re-open it and look at your files again?

PPro uses 32 bit floating point internal for all effects processing, as it maintains greater fidelity of the audio. That's what the whole audio conforming process is all about: creating 32 bit reference files. When you export or lay to tape or whatever else, the audio is requantized to 16 bit to make it "legal" for whatever your destination medium is. In short, don't worry about changing this (I don't even think you can), because it's a good thing.

Hi cbrougham,

thanks for those wonderful replies. I appreciate it.

-I will read about conversion from 25p to 24p.
-need to reserach on that user clip name more. yes it does show up in the P2 viewer even after i close and restart it.
- that 32 bil explaination was awesome...i will leave it as it is..thanks.

-Vivek
