OK, question . . .
I want to know if my experience is consistent with yours.
I was trying to capture 24p footage with the demo, and these are the results I had.
I captured 24p normal pulldown in a 24p project. No problems; capture went smoothly; I had a clean 24p clip on the timeline.
It captured as 60i and removed pulldown on the timeline, it seemed (clip properties were listed as 23.976 fps), so to confirm this, I switched over to a 60i project and dropped the clip in. It recognized the clip as 29.97. Looking at the AVI clips in Windows Explorer, the clip properties said it was a 29fps clip.
So far, no sweat; it looked like it operates similarly to Vegas, capturing as 60i and removing pulldown in a 24p project. It did so with normal pulldown, which, as I understand it, is an improvement over earlier versions of Premiere. (Is this an improvement over 1.5?)
I wanted to see if project settings had an effect on pulldown removal at capture, so I captured more 24p (normal) footage while still in the 60i project. Capture went OK; clip properties said 29.97.
I went back to the 24p project and dropped THAT clip into the project. It didn't remove the pulldown; the clip was still 29.97. Dropping it into the timeline, it was obviously an interlaced clip.
So, at that point, I was thinking that in order to edit in 24p, you have to capture in 24p. But I also thought it could be a function of using normal pulldown as opposed to advanced, so I repeated the process with some 24pA footage.
24p project: Captured/pulldown removed with no problem.
60i project: Again, clip seen as 29.97, played fine, no problem.
I then captured some more 24pA footage in the 60i project, and then I took that clip and dropped it into the 24p project. If I was correct and you have to capture in a 24p project in order to have the pulldown removed, then the clip should be seen as 29.97 in the 24p project.
It wasn't. It saw a 24p clip and it played smoothly.
So, my conclusion is, that you can capture 24pA in either type of project and PP 2.0's 24p project will remove the pulldown. But, if you want to capture 24p (normal) and edit it as native 24p, you have to capture in a 24p project.
So, the two questions:
Is this consistent with your experience, and is it different (improved) over 1.5?
