PowerMac G6 or... ProMacApplePlus Pro

Does anyone here work at apple? Since macs have been able to run windows I've been frothing at the mouth for the next intel based mac desktop. Running fcphd on a 667 laptop is a fun, fulfilling, non-time consuming life killing practice that i enjoy very much.
And i refuse to buy the quad core piece of jurassic crap, considering apple is fond of euthenasia for their legacy prodcuts.

I guess this post is a question: When?

the quad core G5 is one damn fast computer. and your nuts if you think apple is going to stop supporting the PowerPC anytime soon... that would all but kill their entire user base...

quad core piece of jurassic crap? If that's your perception, i've got one loaded with 6.5 gigs of ram ready to toast your eyebrows off buddy :)

LMAO

Expect them around June/July. This week is the iBook that is going to be "intelimized"...

(so MacBook, huh? that at least makes a little more sense for the horrible names of the MacBook Pro's)

I think the PowerMacs will continue to be called Powermacs, since it's a classic name that is much older than the G4 processor. Just like the iMacs...

BTW, nobody that works at apple will tell you this info, since they have signed tons ofNDAs with their own blood. They probably can't tell you the supplier of toilet paper for their facilities, let alone expected release dates...

yeah taubkins answer seems about right... im sure youll see the powermac keep the same name but intel after it instead of g5 but i expect them around augest personally... :-\ ... and i think i am the only person who likes the mbp's name haha

I like the MacBook Pro's name. I don't really see anythnig wrong with it. Oh and I don't know if I read right, but are people expecting there to be new models of Apple laptops this summer? I'm making the conversion from PC to Mac this summer and was going to buy the 17" MacBook Pro.

But if there's a new model coming out...damn technology changes too fast.

the mbp is the new model... the next new model will be the macbook which is your "lower end" portable. i dont see apple making any config changes to the mbp until MAYBE keynote in the fall?

Hmm, okay thanks for the advice. I think the 17" MacBook Pro will be sufficient anyway at the specifications I've picked.

lol

no doubt... but, you can't run windows on it, and i'd rather save the money you spend on energy costs powering the behemoth that is the powerpc processer. It is a piece of jurassic crap, because they have stopped fabricating it, and are moving onto other technologies. AND, i'm not gonna play "whose is bigger" with you.

that being said, i wish i had one sitting right next to my pc.

*head explodes*

So maybe I am being too optimistic. Mike at www.hdforindies.com summed it up pretty clear. Give his last post a read. It seems a pretty reasonable speculation...

And after reading it I'm convinced that the PowerMac will be renamed to ProMac. But that's not bad at all...

my bandmate just got a job in cupertino ca, working for apple.

his job is to test the new ipod gadgets and add-ons. he told me all about it and it sounds like a pretty awesome place to work. He even sat at the same table with steve jobs in the gourmet cafeteria.

hopefully he can hook me up with something nice! haha

i used to know a d00d at apple, who tested hardware. I think the employee discount is 20 percent...
