Powering field monitor via XLR?

Maybe that`s just silly idea but might it be possible to power 12V field monitor via XLR audio socket on camcorder? 48V to 12V is easy but what else to consider? Those 8" LCDs draw about 10W of power.

Thanks,
T

Not silly, but almost quite ;)

No, you can't power a field monitor from the phantom power, for the simple reason that the amperage you can get there is very small. Usually less than 10mA or so. A monitor would need about 1A.

Better use a separate battery. You can use camera batteries, through a 7.2v to 12v booster.
