Powerful projectors?

Im making a new video and it involves projecting various images onto objects in various environments

I will be using a projector to achieve this

A question:

What is a good amount of light (lumens) so that I would be able to not have to significantly stop down to expose for the projection in an outdoor area at daytime/dusk on a cloudy day?

Would 2500 lumens be sufficient?

How faraway will be the projector from the objects or surfaces you will be filming, or how large will be theses projected images? How stong will be the reflectance of the surfaces on which you will project theses images? I mean a movie-theater screen will give you a better result than a black cloth! Using a projector for a back-projection on a screen of 15 feet base, i was more confortable whith a 3600 lumen/lanci projector, 3200 was ok with a +3 db gain, 2500 was dull.
It is not a direct answer to your question, i am sorry. Have fun doing a test!
 
The image size will be about 3 feet by 4 feet, the projector will be as close to the wall as I can make it - it will vary depending on condition of course

With that information - you could say with some certainty that the 3600 lumen would produce stellar results?
 
Be carefull,i answer you, but i still mean that 15 feet base back projection! The 3600 l. projector gave me f:2 diaphragm ; if the screen were 4 feet - that means 4 time smaller - i would have f:8 because there are 4 stops more of ligth coming on the screen! I have no record of how many feet-lamber were on the screen, i just balance the ligthning looking at a monitor. There is no certainty, you are looking for something different, please try a test, you will get confidence and much more creatif.
