Powerbook as field monitor?

Hey guys, this is the first time I've posted to the forum, even though I've been lurking here for a good two months now. It really is a bounty of priceless information and I respect the opinions of everyone on here.

After careful deliberation and waiting for VideoActionPro to start stocking the 100A here in the UK, I've given up and decided to go for the 100, since I'll simply not use the extra features in the 100A to justify it's price tag. I'm a poor film student type who needs to get a new laptop aswell as a camcorder... my question is that could I use, for instance an Apple Powerbook, as a field monitor?

If I ran a DV cable to the Powerbook for instance and booted up Final Cut, would I be able to watch my recording in real time as I shoot? I'm really a newbie to techy stuff and need help here!!

welcome :)

you got it.. you can use firewire to monitor your camera. Just remember it will look a little different on a TV.

Hey Jarred,

I aslo want tu use my 16:9 laptop monitor in field as a cheap solution.
What about a USB WINTV tuner connected to the s-video from the DVX ? In my case a want to free up the firewire for the QuickStream.

it will look like crap, but it will work and might even be a little more accurate to what people on tv would see.
