Anything irritate you like certain posts or responses to posts?

My favorite is when someone asks a pretty basic question (which they admittedly could've done a little research on) and someone replies: "Look around. There's a lot of information on that around the site."

You're being just as useless as they are lazy. Might as well have not responded at all.

Oh, I do say that. As a mod, it's meant to encourage a constructive behavior, one which is actually mentioned in the posting guidelines.

But what was the point of THIS thread?

I agree with THIS.

I don't see it as useless at all... it lets people know that there is a "search" button, and encourage's them to use it as needed.

STRONGLY disagree. If they go search the prior threads, they'll find a wealth of information on the topic. If someone gives them an off-the-cuff answer, it may be a) wrong, or b) not what they're looking for, and c) regardless, it keeps them from seeing all the other answers that people have posted.

It devalues the forum to sprinkle tidbits of information here and there, a little bit in this thread and a little bit in that thread. If discussions on DOF were to happen in primarily one place, then when someone has a question they search for "depth of field" and find a massive library of wonderful, detailed posts that people have labored long and hard to share with the community.

Versus someone posting their "how do I get shallow DOF" question and someone responds with "get an M2." That kind of post is unhelpful.

nothing seems more condecending than the "search is your friend posts" that dont include links in them.

Searching on this site ive noticed over the years is not as fast as it could be, or accurate thanks to limited to 1 search per minute (that includes searches that dont bring up any hits) and in an industry full of acronyms, searching FCP, HVX, M2, etc..etc..etc.. results in nothing, again making you wait another minute for another search.

up to mods to police and what not, alot of stuff goes un modded

And again, as a mod, all a thread like this one does is agitate and sow ill will. Something like this is MUCH more appropriately handled in PMs, or just plain kept to yourself. It accomplishes little do to a call-out in the middle of the Cafe.

I'm quoting myself here. But seriously, pretty much everything has already been answered on this site, so this response could techincally be made for 90% of the inquiries on here. New people are coming in all the time, with new opinions and new experiences. It's okay to revisit old topics.

I have no problem with someone saying, "search around a little bit", but if that's the only thing they offer, it's highly irritating.

Well, that's like saying every answer to every question you ever had can be found in a library. How would you like it if someone answered your questions as such?

Discouraging posting will never add to any discussion; why even continue at all if 'we've covered it already' ?

You yourself has started umpteen threads in the last 2 weeks that could have been searched. Why start this thread with such a mean spirited tone ?

I'm closing this nonsense
