I have seen some really, really great posters from the dvxfest for films that they are doing. I was wondering how I can make a cool poster for my upcoming project? Thanks

Photoshop, paint shop pro, GIMP (Free), etc.

If you're not experienced with any of these sorts of programs then you might not knock out an amazing poster first time round, but now's as good a time to start learning how as any. Otherwise you can probably find several people on the boards that can do one for you, there are some talented photoshop warriors here!

Keep it simple, start with a frame grab, image of some kind, photo, then move on from there, adding elements to it, text, whatever sets the mood right. On a real poster you wouldn't be able to use a grab from the film as the resolution is far too low but for online posters like you see here, you can easily start by using a frame from your film and adding onto that. You do not have to be a graphic design master to make a good looking poster (Though it does help). You just need to learn the basic skills, have a good eye and a nice idea. Keep it simple!

There are tutorials all over the internet on how to use programs like photoshop so that's probably the best place to start.
