It's been a while, but I think the Print Screen (PrtScrn?) button still serves to copy a fullscreen capture to the clipboard in Windows XP...
In OS X, Command-Shift-3 will take a fullscreen capture. Command-Shift-4 let's you select/resize the portion to be captured.

If you want to make someone mad do a print screen of your desktop than hide all the icons and set the print screen you just made as the background. The next person to use it will go mad trying to click on the icons that are not actually there...wow, I have never felt more of a nerd.
