I am setting up a new post suite and need to get some other opinions regarding workflow.

Here are the variables:
Shooting on a Panasonic Varicam
Offline on several FCPHD suite
Sound Post and VFX done in another part of my studio (seperate companies)
Online for all FCP shows happens on one Online FCP suite.
I am required to meet different broadcast specs for delivery. Masters sometimes need to be one of the following,720/24p (23.98) 1080/24p, 1080i, and SD NTSC 29.97 etc.

Availble equipment:
Firewire storage in each suite, XRaid as well in the Online.
Panasonic 1200 deck
DBeta
DVcam
DVCPro
Avid DS (v.6.0)
Avid Symphony
(Basically, a full tape room)

My company has a solid Avid workflow (SD), we are new to FCPHD workflow. Most of my editors are experienced FCP users, however, they don't set the workflow.

So my question is: can anyone suggest the best workflow for the situation. Editing base set up (29.97 vs. 23.98, DF vs NDF etc), pipeline setup (equipment to equipment), what should the dailies be digitized as (dvntsc or dvcprohd codec). We also would like to do final colour correction in the Avid DS. Any suggestions on the best way of getting in to the DS suite would be appreciated.

It's a big question, any help would be great.

So, the big question is how to import your FCP EDL to your DS EDL.

Automatic Duck Pro Export (www.automaticduck.com) transfers FCP EDL's to Symphony, Media Composer, Quantel, Xpress/Xpress DV. They presently don't offer a FCP to DS solution but offer this:

"We are very interested in working to get DS "supported", if you have a sequence you'd like to test, let us know. ABVB-based systems are not supported."

Otherwise, I'm not sure as to how to get the EDL into the DS sequence without making the file self contained, thus rendering color correction useless, as one effect would apply to all shots. It looks like the DS suite is the black sheep, of the workflow.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on this.

I am not some much worried about the DS. There is a plug-in from Digital Heaven called EDL Mirror that works great. We also use Automatic Duck for our AE and Combustion suites. What I am mostly concerned with is putting together a good FCP workflow. From ingestion to master output. Thats the big question. I am happy keeping the DS out of the loop if need be.
