Post production copies - what is best ?

What is the big secret about providing content material to TV stations and/or cable broadcasters?

Is there a standard format - SVHS or BETA or DVD or what?

How do you get content to these guys in an acceptable manner - assuming you met all the pull-down requirements 4:2:2 etc. ?

Re: Post production copies - what is best ?

At the tv station I work at, we usually like everything on BETA SP. However we just began accepting MPEG2 files as long as the audio is embedded with the video. These we can air directly off of our new MPeg2 server. I'm really happy about this as now we can just send our finished spots over the ethernet to the control room completely tapeless! Isn't technology amazing?!

My local cable station accepts DVDs, which is an incredibly convenient and low cost way to go....

Our local Public Access Channel accepts mini-dv tapes and VHS tapes.

"the industry" is usually an ambiguous term. In my business, I store finished long term on DVD either as a release master or a dub master. Basically, Beta SP is still a good mastering format. The only thing to keep in mind with analog tape is that you should fast forward it to the end of the tape and rewind it periodically to prevent tape adhesions problems and magnetic "bleedthru". I usually do this 1-2 times a year.
