Post Image Stabilizing

This is a pretty important topic considering all the jittery handheld footage being cranked out.

I've seen examples of After Effects, where you push in X amount of pixels and do some fancy tracking. Then you feed the tracking data back into some kind of equation and it stabilizes the footage.

Is there an easier way? Are there (cheap) software solutions that do a good job?

Do people have examples to show, before and after?

I'm thinking a 3K or 4K image would be far superior than 1080 when you need to push in and lose the edges.

There are dozens of examples, and excellent tools to do this from free to several hundred dollars. I've posted half a dozen examples of it myself.

And yes, a 4K image would be terrific but not necessary. All that is really necessary is shooting a bit wider than intended knowing you'll push in a bit in post. I do it all the time when I am handheld, or on my FigRig.
