Post editing to remove a "click" in audio

I recorded some background music for a Video project using a local Cellist. I placed a Zoom H2 in front of her and she improvised several short tracks. While she was warming up, I had the H2 recording...and I was setting up video equipment. The session lasted about an hour and I got a lot of nice stuff.

The "warm-up" track was by far the most suitable mood for the project ...but it has some unnacceptable back ground sounds of me setting up. We would really like to use this track...but we need to edit out some of the background. I don't have any experience in sound editing/engineering so I need some help. Listen to this 30 sec WAV file...and hear the "click" or "snap" sound around 15 seconds. Can I edit that out with Audacity? I just want to eliminate the "click/snap" without changing the sounds of the cello.

Thoughts?

Its fixable, although I can't speak with any authority about whether Audacity has the neccessary tools.

Since the click occurs while a note is being held, you should be able to remove the click and then patch the hole by using a time expansion tool to extend either side of the note to cover the edit. Unfortunately, this will likely muck up the vibrato.

Another option would be to go through the entire recording looking for a repetition of that particular note held for an equal or greater duration and performed in a simmilar manner.

Best of luck with the edit.

You can repair that with RX by iZotope. Don't think you would have a lot of luck with Audacity but? It's probably more cost effective to job it out than buy and learn something like RX.
