Possible problems with new benro s6

Hi guys,

I've just bought myself a benro s6 tripod kit and have a couple of concerns with it and just want to know if it's normal behaviour or something I should be worried about.

My problems are mainly related to the counterbalance. The 3 levels seem to work and are clearly different. I do notice that there is more pushback tilting the camera forward than there is when tilting it back but I guess this is normal. The two things that worry me though is that a) when I turn the counterweight off I have to rock the camera back and forward a fair bit for it to actually turn off and b) there seems to be a fair bit of clicking throughout the motion. It doesn't seem to effect the actual motion much from quick tests but is a bit disconcerting and for video work I obviously don't really want a noisey tripod.

Thanks for any help you can give.

1- Before you apply the counter-balance, are you making sure your camera package is balanced on the head ? ( by moving the 501 plate forward and back until it feels evenly weighted )

2- It's normal to move the head back and forth a bit to get the counterbalance to disengage. ( my Sachtler ACE head does the same thing )

3- The clicking does not sound normal. You definitely have the head locking mechanism loose? ( usually it's a grinding sound if the locking mechanism is partially engaged )

Thanks for the quickly reply.

Figured out why the counter balance was having move effect one way than the other... wasn't taking the handle into account .

Good to know the behaviour disengaging the counter balance isn't abnormal as well.

With regards to the clicking it only happens when I'm panning down with the counterweight on. Everything is loosened off but there is a series of clicks at fairly regular spacing, sometimes with a more noticeable one as I pass the centre point. Any idea what else might be causing it?

Cheers

You mean tilting down with the counterbalance on. ( panning is horizontal movement )

I'll check my S6 head tomorrow morning and see if I am getting any clicking noises, then compare with my Sachtler head, and let you know what my results are.
