Possible Firewire Drive Battery Option

Alright, after some online digging I found this:

http://store.yahoo.com/laptopupgrade/fiuscoenfors.html

At the bottom of the page you'll see they sell a battery pack that they claim will power a firewire enclosure for 2-5 hours. Sounds good to me. And I believe it should work with any enclosure, not just the one they sell.

So, maybe now we can get an offloading option with firewire verify, and fast transfer speeds, and portable! If only we weren't limited to 60gb hd's....

Cool. Well done.
As long as it can provide enough startup power to get a hdd going.
Apparently more power is needed when starting a drive (to spin the disk up). This can be up to 1000mA with some drives but varies between make/age/size. Once started the hdd then uses less power.

I'm trying to go down this route too.
If you get one of these please post your results.

I'll probably get one, but it will be a week or two. If anyone checks it out sooner, let us know how it works.
